Matrix Design Group is the designer and manufacturer of the industry-leading underground tracking system called "METS". METS (Miner and Equipment Tracking System) installations are in daily production use in mines in WV, KY, IL, IN, PA and NM. Designed and built for operation in underground mining environments, METS is the proven choice for reliably tracking a mine's important assets. Matrix Design Group (MDG) has designed two METS systems, an Ethernet-based system (METS 1.0) and an Intrinsically Safe system (METS 2.1). Both versions use METS easy-to-use software and high-strength, MSHA-approved tracking tags. METS 1.0 is designed specifically for inexpensive and quick installation in mines with underground ethernet infrastructure. METS 1.0 readers are native-ethernet devices with four remote antenna ports. Each port can be given a unique name to permit one reader to monitor four different entries or multiple directions of travel. METS 2.1 was specifically developed to meet anticipated U.S. MINER Act underground tracking requirements. This system uses a wired mesh infrastructure to provide redundant, post-accident power and data to Intrinsically Safe (IS) readers.
