ILLINOIS BASIN FIELD TECHNICIAN

Matrix Design Group is looking for an experienced Field Technician with a strong electronics and communications background to provide post-sales technical support to current and future mine sites in the Illinois Basin, which includes western Kentucky, southern Indiana and southern Illinois.

Duties

The main duties of a field technician are to ensure customer satisfaction and assist the customer with support issues, both at mine sites and over the phone.  Duties will require traveling to the various mines within the Illinois Basin.  

The position may also involve pre-sales activities such as product demonstration and quoting. Post-sales activities will include visiting existing mine sites to gauge current satisfaction.

From time to time, the field technician would be required to perform other tasks such as installation assistance, training, product development testing & feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Become functional and technical expert on our products
  • Manage post-sales support cases from initiation to resolution & document
  • Provide feedback to developers on prototype products & assist developers with in-mine testing needed for future products
  • Increase customer satisfaction
  • Provide detailed weekly activity reports to management.
  • Other responsibilities as may occur in a rapidly growing company

Requirements

  • Extensive travel in the Illinois Basin. Possibly traveling to Appalachian and Western coalfields.  
  • Ability to work underground in a coal mining environment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule when required
  • A good driving record
  • Maturity, discipline, excellent inter-personal and time-management skills
  • Dedication, drive, initiative, and the ability to meet company goals and objectives

This is a salary position.  Expected hours are 45+ per week.

Possible Changes

Matrix is a growing company and its culture is such that employees are often called on to perform work not in their current job description.  At some point in the future Matrix may produce products for other hazardous environments such as military bases, refineries, sea ports, power generation facilities such as nuclear power plants, etc.  Current Matrix employees may be asked to perform work in those environments.

Work Environment

Typically a field technician will work in an underground mining environment.  The technician will normally work without direct supervision. 

Qualifications

  • Strong electronics and communications technology troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Organized, self-starter who can work independently

Education and Experience

  • Technical degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years of customer facing technical support experience
